Nika, the elevator operator, will take students up or down to their next story. She also lets students know when their answers are right or wrong. The building on the left side maps student progress as they work their way to the top. Students read their way from the first story up to the Top Readers' Club. Students may read through each story at their own rate. Each passage is followed by a question. Each time a comprehension question is answered correctly, the elevator will take the student to the next story. Questions challenge students in 10 areas of literal and inferred comprehension. Student records show how they have scored in answering each type of comprehension question.
There are 144 stories provided in The Top Readers' Club. The stories and questions were developed by a reading specialist. Select reading level 2, 3, 4, or 5. Each level contains 3 sets of 12 stories. The easiest stories in each set will be encountered first. As students progress up the elevator, the stories generally will involve more difficult reading. Within a given level (i.e. 2), for the first and second trips up to the Top Readers' Club, stories will be taken from the 12 stories in set A. Some stories will be repeated, but different questions are likely. For the 3rd and 4th trips up the elevator, stories will be taken from the 12 stories in set B. Set C will be used for the 5th and 6th rides to the top.
The Summary page displays how each student has performed in each of the 10 comprehension categories and at each separate reading level. Overall totals are also provided for each reading level and for the combined results of all reading levels. When using Class Files, results can be viewed for the latest session, the last 5 sessions, or students' cumulative work. Choose to see scores as right/total, as a percent correct, or as a letter grade. Note that the grading scale for letter grades may be established from the Teacher Module. Available in unlimited Schoolwide Network/Site License editions (no CD's) for Windows or Macintosh. |
